I do not know how to help
you find my heart except that
it is here if you ask for it.
For here I am on a farm in
Herzegovina under the
green fruit of an olive tree. And here I am
walking the streets of Dubrovnik
when what catches me most is the
half moon in recline against
the red-tiled roofs. And here
I am now in bed trying to
say that my heart beats and
hopes. Flutters because I can feel
all the conceptuality of its
possibility and potential if
you could just get to its center,
and then I imagine all else of
me would wrap about you.
But I don’t know how to
get you here.

Author’s Note: My uncle once said that Dubrovnik (pictured above) is the most beautiful city in the world, and the times I’ve been, I can’t help but agree!
