Dear Spiders,
Thank you for building your webs just out of reach so I
don’t have to cut through them every night, swinging my arms
like a planet twirling off-axis.
Tomorrow, a cosmic classic is happening, and if you like, we can
watch it on my front stoop. I’ll find the handle of the
Big Dipper and point my binoculars at it.
We can watch bright, frenzied elements explode out of a supernova.
We can imagine how the fruitful shockwaves will
trigger stars just inside our Milky Way backyard.

More Spiders
Sometimes I wonder if my
house isn’t filled with
spiders per se but just
the one. And we keep
interrupting each other’s lives.
I look behind some
door. I organize some
bin. I dust around some
cupboards, and there
it is!
Hello! I say, but
rudely it just runs off.
I wonder if it thinks:
What again?! Can’t I find
some peace?!!
So the fact that I’ve
found it for three
days living right under my
shower head fills me with
satisfaction.
Hello! I say as I
step into the tub.
I’m glad you’ve
found your spot.
