She Reminds Me
First she texts:
Why am I not talking to you more?!
I respond:
Lol … you have forgotten me.
She types:
I am so overly overwhelmed by life.
And I can only 👍 for I, too, am at the end of my fingertips.
I could never forget you. Am I not always looking over my shoulder for you?
It’s just a sentence, but it reminds me of how I love to jump out of shadows.
The world is always more inviting when there are people who
pre-tremble at the whisper of your leaps.
She is 😆.
Keep me posted.
And then we end on forests and stars 🌿 🌟.

Author’s Note: My book DEAREST ENEMY is about my friendship with the writer Katrina Swenson. We got in the habit of talking to each other as if we were enemies, and the back-and-forth spawned some of my favorite wordplay. There’s something so thrilling when you can write lines like “Pestilence of my heart” OR “Tell me how you romp dear example of perfect evil” and the other person is just like ROtFLMAO. You can find out more about my book here.
This particular poem happened when Katrina texted me in response to my last post here. You never know how inspiration will strike!
